Sometimes the journey is long — but that doesn’t mean you’re lost.

I took this photograph just as the light began to rise over Astoria, Oregon. The sky was unusually still, the waters calm, and the bridge — like a thread of grace — stretched toward the horizon, connecting what felt impossible to cross.

I named it “The Long Way Home” because that’s how it felt to me: the winding road below, the quiet city nestled in trees, the bridge glowing in the early light of day. It reminded me that God doesn’t just meet us at the destination — He walks with us in every step, turn, and stretch along the way.

This piece is for the ones in the middle of the story. The ones not there yet — but still moving forward, trusting in the light ahead.

Have you ever woken early enough to witness the world bathed in colors that seem to exist only for a fleeting moment?

The air was cool and crisp as I stepped out onto the hillside overlooking the Columbia River inlet. A soft breeze carried the faint briny scent of the water below, mingled with the earthy aroma of the surrounding pine trees. The town of Astoria lay quiet beneath the blush of a waking sky, its streets still wrapped in slumber. The Astoria-Megler Bridge stretched across the inlet like a lifeline connecting two worlds, its steel structure silhouetted against a kaleidoscope of purples and fiery pinks.

Setting up my tripod on the slope, I marveled at how the light transformed so quickly. Long exposure photography demanded precision here—balancing the changing hues with the movement of the water and the sky’s gradual brightening. Each adjustment of the lens felt like a meditation, a chance to commune with the fleeting beauty around me. The camera captured what my eyes could only admire for a moment—the smooth curve of the winding road below, the texture of the bridge, and the vibrant explosion of sunrise across the sky.

Birdsong harmonized with the distant hum of a fishing boat, and my hands trembled slightly, both from the chill and the awe of the scene. As the shutter clicked for the last time, I stood still, absorbing the final moments of this masterpiece painted by nature. It wasn’t just a photograph I had taken—it was a memory sealed in light.

Meet The Artist

I discovered my passion for capturing the wonders of creation at twelve, holding a pink camera under the sprawling branches of a black walnut tree. It was spring, and the air carried the heavy perfume of fruit blossoms. Before me stretched a field awash in purple wildflowers, their brilliance framed by clouds lazily drifting across an endless sky. Though recovering from illness, my soul stirred, urging me to preserve the moment. The click of the shutter felt like a vow: I would someday share the beauty of this world with everyone.

But life had its demands, and my dream grew quiet as I matured. At twenty-six, a degenerative nerve disease altered my course. With hands that betrayed me and my vision blurred, the lens seemed further from reach. The ache to create remained, yet my abilities became uncertain and my aspirations distant. I prayed, unsure if the desire to photograph was meant to stay or fade.

In 2019, the quiet ember reignited. With faith as my anchor, I enrolled in classes to master the art I once thought lost. The work was painstaking. My fingers trembled, my sight faltered, but each image I captured spoke of determination. Slowly, I rediscovered my rhythm, my purpose, and my joy.

By 2023, I had learned not only to take photographs but to share them. An online academy guided me in turning passion into livelihood. Hesitant, yet hopeful, I launched a small store, my art a reflection of my journey. That fall, my first sale arrived—a quiet affirmation.

Today, my photographs grace walls and hearts. Each frame whispers stories of resilience and grace, a reflection of a Creator’s hand in my life. Through my lens, I offer the world a glimpse of glory, one image at a time.
